Late/Absence Procedures

ATTENDANCE

It is important that pupils come to school regularly and on time. Attendance at school is crucial in ensuring pupils achieve their potential.

When a child is absent from school, please notify the school of the reason on the first morning of absence.  The school also operates a ‘First Response System’ and parents will receive a phone call/text if their child is absent and we have not been informed by 9.30am. An absence must be counted as unauthorised if no explanation is given or if the reason provided is deemed unacceptable. We follow the LA guidance and letters are sent home as required.

You will receive your child attendance each half term. Your child’s yearly attendance figures will be shown on his/her school report. If you have any queries please contact either Mrs Hansen or Miss Jenkins.

Punctuality is a vital life skill and it is important that pupil are encouraged to develop this. Pupils begin ‘active learning’ as soon as they enter the classroom, late arrivers often miss these and the beginning of lessons and find it difficult to catch up. If you are late, you should bring your child to the receptions and sign them in.

If your child needs to leave early for any reason, please telephone or write explaining the situation. No child will be allowed off the school premises during school hours unless accompanied by an adult. All pupils leaving early must be signed out by the adult collecting them.

If attendance or punctuality becomes a concern, the attendance welfare service will become involved.

Telephones - Please note that our Reception Offices are not manned before 8.30am and after 3.30pm. However, telephone messages can be left at any time and we will do our best to contact you as soon as possible.
