Application for Leave of Absence for Family Holiday during Term Time
Schools have discretionary power to grant a pupil leave of absence for the purpose of an annual family holiday during term time. Only in exceptional circumstances may the amount of leave exceed two weeks in any year.
In all cases, schools must consider each application on its merits and will not give blanket approval to all applications. In deciding whether to grant permission, for an authorised holiday, the school takes into account:-
Absences sanctioned by the school constitute authorised absences. Where parents take the pupil away without permission in advance or keep the pupil away in excess of the agreed period, absences will be treated as unathorised and will be recorded as such.
It would be appreciated if all applications for leave of absence could be submitted as far in advance of the date of the holiday as possible.
